Ideal pregnant women diet essentially aims at the inclusion of healthy fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy products and other similar foods containing vital vitamins and minerals.

For instance, vitamin B, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and copper are some nutrients that are important components of diet during pregnancy.

In terms of calories, diet plan for pregnant women specifically calls for the inclusion of additional 100 calories per day during the first trimester and similarly 300 calories during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

In addition, protein rich foods such as milk, yogurt, nuts, legumes, steamed sprouts, eggs, lean meats and fish are highly recommended. However, pregnant women diet should focus on the inclusion of more vegan foods instead of meat foods.

Precautionary measures like avoiding unpasteurized milk, cheese, juices, raw eggs and uncooked fish and meats should also be undertaken. Plus, restrict the consumption of tea, coffee, alcohol and sodas.

Raw papayas, pumpkins, pineapples, grapes and nuts are regarded as heaty foods and hence should be consumed in moderation only. Furthermore, it is recommended to have frequent light meals at regular intervals rather than burdening oneself with few but heavy meals.

Also, excessive pregnancy weight gain can be avoided considerably by limiting the intake of fats and foods high in sugar. Interestingly, recent studies have found that apart from providing nourishment, pregnant women diet also tends to influence the food and flavor preferences of the offspring.
